I had in mind for quite some time to make a summer linen set. I took the chance when free fabric was offered to me by fabrics-store.com. I mean who says no to free fabric!
The Pattern
Since I know the basics of pattern drafting, I decided to draft the vest by myself. The pattern pieces were made based on Il Modellismo: Tecnica del Modello Sartoriale e Industriale book from which I learned patternmaking some years ago.
Considering it was my first welt pocket vest, I am pretty satisfied with the construction and the look. Now, I have a ready-to-use pattern to make as many vests as I want!
As for the pants, I used a free pattern from fabrics-store.com. The pattern is named cass wide leg culottes, and after creating an account on the website is free to download.
A tutorial on how to make the pants is available, the seam allowance is included and the pattern is very easy to follow. The fit is very good since I did not make any changes besides adding length since I prefer long pants and not culottes.
The Fabric
CORONET BLUE Softened – 100% Linen – Middle (5.3 oz/yd2).
Sewing
Sewing the set went pretty smooth, especially sewing with linen is heavenly satisfying. I did have some issues finding the right buttons and picking the right colored blue thread but they got resolved quite easily.
The vest required more time and a lot of details to be considered, such as the lining, the buttonholes, and the welt pockets, but they turned out more than I expected.
Honestly, I would make this set in every possible color since I am so in love with how it looks. Just a simple everyday look you can style it to wear it for different occasions.
Until next time,
Love
